Level 1 Certification Overview

(This course is designed to meet and exceed ISO 18436 and the SNT-TC-1Arecommended practices.)
The training programme combines both theoretical and practical activities blended together to provide a positive learning experience.  The theoretical information is essential for understanding the real world problems that face thermographers in the field today.  This is combined with hands-on operator training that teaches how to use infrared instruments.  Our trainers are highly qualified and experienced and they can teach you not only basic system operation, but also the finer points of your specific piece of equipment and give you the knowledge utilise the tools at your disposal.
You will also learn the principles behind the main applications of infrared thermography and study how industries incorporate this technology into different businesses.  Our trainers will teach how to create professional reports and the processes that are used by qualified thermographers.  After completing the course you will have an understanding of the techniques and reporting procedures necessary to put together an effective predictive maintenance program.

Building Inspection Mentoring

The Institute of Infrared Thermography is offering a specialist five day field experience training course.  The course is an intensive programme designed to prepare clients to perform all aspects of building investigation.

Included in the inspection techniques covered are air tightness testing, thermography, blower door testing, smoke tests, energy audits, roof investigations including thatched and flat roofs, floor heating devices, and building envelopes amongst others.  Building physics theories are included as part of the training to underpin different inspection techniques.

The type and variation of tuition is dependant on the conditions.  Environmental factors have an immense effect on the style of investigation that can be conducted.  Seasonal variation in weather patterns mean that the training and tuition on offer contrasts throughout the autumn, winter, spring and summer months.  Please contact us for more details about the availability of inspection techniques.

The training is carried out with a highly proficient building physics professional.  IRT trainers are both highly qualified and experienced and are adept in all aspects of building inspections.  The experience of the tutor means that the standard of training is of the highest quality and because the tuition is delivered on a one to one basis, clients have the opportunity to learn a vast amount is a short period of time.

Due to the continual increased cost of energy across Europe there has been a growing demand for energy efficient commercial and domestic properties.  In the UK the much publicised Home Information Pack (HIP) scheme is due to be introduced.  This will provide Energy Performance Certificates for properties.

The EU has also addressed this issue and is in the process of introducing new legislation to improve the energy efficiency of new buildings across Europe.  This legislation is causing a growing demand for inspectors with knowledge of building physics and in particular thermography.

Building Thermography Course

This course will show you how to identify: Conduction and convection losses such as missing, inadequate and improperly installed insulation, air movement through the building envelope, improper air sealing and missing air barriers. Moisture deteriorates building enclosures! The results of moisture problems is a deterioration of the building enclosure which will lead to reduced energy efficiency, structural damage and in many cases, mold and bacteria growth that will affect the health of the inhabitants. This course will show you how to locate moisture problems well before they become visibly apparent, and, identify the source of the problem. Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning problems along with electrical and mechanical inspection will be reviewed in this comprehensive course.

Air Tightness Testing

The Institute of Infrared Thermography is offering a  ‘Blowerdoor’ evaluation course.  This course will teach the essential competencies needed to construct a blower door and perform efficient Air Tightness Testing.  All equipment will be provided  and participants will be instructed how to use the equipment, software packages and operate all the blowerdoor apparatus.  Inspection techniques will include guidelines of how and when to use complimentary instruments such as moisture sensors, smoke guns etc.  The theory element of the course will focus on standards and data collection techniques and how to deliver an effective report

The Institute of Infrared Thermography have access to a range of products and software. This allows students attending the course to gain knowledge of different products and identify which equipment is most suitable for their specific application. The emphasis is on gaining ‘hands on’ experience and participation in all aspects of conducting tests.
